But how do I get rid of the libxml2 and libxslt RPMs that are already
installed without leaving me with a broken dependency? I can of course
use --force, but that's pretty unclean.

I'm still baffled as to how the OP managed to proceed: he must have had
the same RPMs installed as I do, as they are embedded in RH's default
install.

Java itself is fine. Java apps tend to require very specific versions,
which is why I ended up on my last machine with 5 copies of Java :-)
