I agree.  I was mostly trying to make it visually "look right" to me in the
easiest way possible.  I used my little
indicator<http://i.imgur.com/YnC0L.png> for
some time but it made my panel feel a bit ghetto since I couldn't line
things up the way I wanted and I had difficulties compiling a custom
indicator-applet.

What you propose is kind of what I ended up doing with the current Clock
panel applet <http://i.imgur.com/pncwO.png>.  It still feels wrong to me
though that UTC is considered a "location" in the Clock as it's not
somewhere I can physically go (if that makes sense) but it gets the job
done.

I am interested in hearing more about what you have planned.  I am having
difficulties visualizing it with the way the current datetime indicator
works <http://i.imgur.com/58VCe.png> in 10.10.
