Elaine, Which archive?
Salt Lake has all birth, marriages, and deaths up to about the 1870s or 1880s depending on the village. They also have a few miscellaneous legitimizations too. The Archives has up to about 1905 or so in vitals. They have the emigration out of the country (Sao Miguel is online). They have the wills, filed alphabetically by notary (if you know your family's notary). In the archive on Sao Miguel, the have the Canto indices. They have the Machado genealogies too, but you can new view those on the CCA web site and/or order the computerized version from Fr. Joe Viveiros in Swansea, MA. If you are going to the archive in Angra, you can search the dispensations.
