Hi Cheri!!

My maternal grandfather's Y-DNA is one of the matches that you wrote
about, as you know Cheri! I had one of my first cousins tested and
Cheri can tell you that it took me months to get the sample and I
finally had to catch him at a family wedding........I guess those
stories about crazy people who stalk people for their DNA are true!!
To explain, my cousin said he would give me the sample but never got
around to it....so I caught him at the wedding with the test kit in my
hands!! It was tricky to try to get three samples in between all the
festivities!! Anyway, it looks as if the pursuit was worth it! His
sample is 106619 and I just wrote to the e-mail address attached to
kit 75203 and look forward to corresponding with her. The interesting
part is that both of our last male line ancestors come from Lajes,
Pico.....which makes so much sense, as we have a match...but still, it
is exciting to see this little bit of validation. On my part, my
grandfather's ancestry goes back to about 1755 where I hit a brick
wall as this ancestor was the son of an unwed mother. Also interesting
is the fact that this end of the line ancestor, Jose Inacio
Bettencourt, was married to a Helena Maria. The other person, whose
DNA matches my grandfather's was also married to a Helena Maria. They
are not the same Helena Marias and it is probably just a name that is
popular in that area....but this is the ONLY Helena Maria I have in my
ancestry. I feel that this common name might indicate that the "family
lines" are getting closer as you do see the repetition of names in one
locality. While it looks certain that we ARE related...it does not
look as if we could ever prove it. Still, it is very exciting to me!
