Dear Anthony, I'm sure you had the best of intentions in posting that essay to the group, but it does more harm than good. The authors have an agenda to "prove" that Melungeons are Jewish, so they attempt to link ANY immigrant Jewish populations to fit their agenda and this includes the Portuguese.
The authors used data from our Azores DNA Project without consent or even the courtesy of notification. Myself, and other DNA project administrators requested that the data be removed and they would not comply. The protocol for including DNA data in a published article is to inform the participants that their DNA data is to be included, this is known as "informed consent". They likely knew that if they had followed protocol, the more knowledgeable admins and participants would not have consented. Hardly a culture, ethnicity, or country can escape the agenda of these two, they have even tried to link the ancient Scots, see the following page: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~valorie/review-when_scotland_was_jewish.htm If you'd like to read real and valid genetics studies of Portuguese populations, including the Azores and Madeira, let me know and I can send you some.
