How to post a new message: Email method: 1) Go to your email program and click on your "compose mail" button. 2) In the "To" box, type in: [email protected] 3) In the subject, try for something a little bit descriptive. Maybe the surname, village and island. "Hi there," "I'm lost," "Help me" most likely will not get you a good response and many people on the list delete those types of posts. 4) In the body, put your question or what you know (name, dates, locations, events).
Web board method: 1) Log in with your Gmail account. 2) Look at the right column and click Discussions. 3) Under that, the subtitle of "+ New Post" opens. Responding to a message: Please make sure if the topic is regarding Vila Franca on Sao Miguel island that you don't start posting about your ancestors from Praia da Vitoria on Terceira. Why do this? With so many messages and many members having limited time that they can spend on the computer, they may delete your message if is on the wrong topic/thread (such as posting your Terceira ancestors to a Sao Miguel ancestor thread). If they are busy and are reading only things about Terceira and you post to a Sao Miguel titled thread/topic, they'll delete it. Same for the non-descriptive topics/headers of "Hi there, "I'm lost," etc. You won't be enticing as many people to read your post. Responding to a person: Email method: This depends on your email server. Many times, you can see the person who sent the email and you can copy their address into a new "compose mail" and email them directly. On Gmail, you have to click on the "show details" link to the right of the name. Web board method: 1) Log in with your Gmail account. 2) If you need to respond directly to the person, click the "view profile" to the right of their name. 3) Next screen, click the ellipsis (the ....) to the right of the name. 4) Next screen, type in the security thing and hit OK.
