Vivian, Nothing comes to mind off the top of my husband, John and my head.
John was born in SLO and knows a lot of old timers. However, if they were in
Oso Flaco they may have been born in Santa Barbara County. Oceano is in SLO
county but Guadalupe, the nearest "farm city" or Santa Maria, the "main farm
city" is in Santa Barbara County. Oso Flaco is very close to the border of the
two counties. We'll keep looking in SLO. Try Santa Barbara County, especially
the North County areas of Santa Maria, Guadalupe. In the old days there were
some "train towns", can't remember the names. The towns helped serve the
trains because of all the produce grown in the South SLO and Northern Santa
Barbara Counties. Will let you know if we find anything in SLO county.

We know some Souza's but they are from the North Coastal area of SLO county.
I'll ask them. Will advise.

Ronnie

        Hi Ronnie,

        This is what I know.

        Isabella Leal Silveira b. July 24, 1854 Sao Jorge, d. Nov 17, 1936 in
Hanford, Ca. immigrated abt 1892. Was at Oso Flaco, Guadalupe, County of San
Luis Obispo on a rented farm until they went bankrupt. Then they moved to
Santa Clara County, San Jose, Oakland area. After that they moved to Hanford,
King County I have them in the 1920 & 1930 census. That is where her and her
husband Primo Souza died. Not even the probate records for their property had
any information I could use. Either did the obits on them.

Primo Souza b. abt 1855 in Sao Jorge d. Dec 08, 1930 in Hanford, Ca.
Manuel ? Stepson b. abt 1880 where unknown
All her children except my Grandmother (Marie Holmes Joseph say they
were born in San Luis Obispo.
Frank Peter Holmes, b. Oct. 24, 1882 in San Luis Obispo d. Mar 15, 1950
in Oakdale, Ca.
Joseph Holmes. b. abt 1884 d. 1911 in Bakersfield, Ca
John Joseph Holmes b. Oct. 24, 1887 in San Luis Obispo d. Aug 23, 1932
in Oakland, Ca.
Marie Gertrude Holmes b. May 31, 1894 or 1890 in San Luis Obispo, Ca.
d. Aug 23, 1977 in San Diego, Ca. (she put in a little bio she was born on Sao
Jorge but on her Social Security record it say San Luis Obispo, Ca)
The children all listed their Father as Frank Holmes but I can find no
record of him that I can for sure say he was an actual person and not just a
name used instead of Primo Souza. I am not sure if Primo Souza and Frank
Holmes are not the same person.

I can not find any birth records for any of the children. I have also
checked the records they have so far on Sao Jorge without finding any of them
born there. So how can you find birth records for people who say they were
born in San Luis Obispo but where ever I check there are none. I have copies
of their death certs, census records from 1910, 1920, 1930 and WWar records.
They must have just appeared on the planet. If you know of anywhere I could
write or call to find birth records for them I would appreciate the help. I
live in San Diego.

Thank you for any help, Vivian (Silva) Christy

          Vivian:

We live in San Luis Obispo, if there's any help we can provide, let
us know. What were your ancestors names when they lived here and during what
years?

          Ronnie
