Nancy Jean, I wish you luck. I've hit quite a few road blocks. What is CCA?
How do you all find all this information?!?!? From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Coelho and Rocha from Teceira 1800's Date: Wed, 6 May 2009 16:55:05 -0500 Greetings Group, My ggrandfather, Antonio Teixeira Baptista, married my ggrandmother in Mass. in 1888... It said it was his second marriage...they were married at St. John the Baptiste so I assume he was a widower..... On his death record the witness was a Manuel Baptista.....he only had 1 son in this country, my grandfather, John Cabral Baptiste..... I went to the CCA records....Antonio was born in Topo, Sao Jorge in 1835.....I have noticed that most of the Azorean men were a bit older when marrying so I started looking at Topo batisms beginning in 1860....I looked at every record and found nothing until 1875....a birth to Antonio and his first wife.....finally I had found them! This child was a son, Jose....in 1878 there was another son born to them, Manuel.....I believe I found the witness to Antonio's death in the US. My problem comes in that I went backwards and forwards looking for more children and found none. I looked in obits for his wife beginning in 1878...to date I've not found her death OR their marriage. The baptismal record for their 2 sons gives her name as, Maria Emilia, daughter of Jacintho Jose Coelho and Francisca Marianna Rocha,.....it says she is from Angra, Teceira....... My question is did the marriages in the 1800's USUALLY happen at the church of the bride or the groom? I looked in the CCA records for Teceira, not that many online and didn't see any sign of a wedding for Antonio and Maria Emilia.........Is anyone connected to this COELHO/ROCHA family? On a slightly different note.....I've noticed some baptismal records that say "ultima" filho...the first of Antonios sons, Jose, only said filho legitima.....the one for Manuel in 1878 said "ultima" filho.......so is it more like final child or latest child? I've seen many records that say ultima....what determines which ones say that since sometimes they'll be different right next to each other? Thanks for all help!
