I am so new to this group, but had to comment. I have just started doing the Portuguese line but have done a lot with my Spanish ancestors. They were so anxious to assimilate that they picked American names for their children without much logic. Just sounded good I guess. Florentino (Tino) became Fred; Manuela became Emma; Juanita became Jeanette. You get the idea! If everything else matches it could be the same person.
