Vieira-my cousin married Luis Vieira from Ribeira Grande. The family owned a
construction or building material company there-very well known. Most of my
family is from Ribeira Grande. Besides my father being born in the US and
went back, served the military over there, I was considered first generation
here since they wouldn't acknowledge him as a citizen because he had to have
a sponsor to get back in. My ggrandfather was Mariano Furtado.

I'll have to see if there is any relation to the de Silvas. This group is
chock full of information to help you.

Hello Azores Group,

I just stumbled upon this group and I am very excited about what you
do. My husband is a pure blood Portugese with all four grandparents
directly from the Azores. He is stuck at not being able to trace his
grandparents across the pond to the Azores.

His grandfather went by Frank M. Vieira, but was also known as
Francaice Mariano Vieira. He changed his name from De Silva to Vieira
when he came to the States. At age 63 he registered for the WWII draft
giving his birthplace as Texeira Azores. His father's name is Mariano
De San Bento de Silva and he is known to have lived in Ribeira Grande,
San Miguel.

Any guidance or suggestions would be so appreciated.
Thanks,
Gayle
