Hi group. Back in June I made this posting: http://groups.google.com/group/Azores/browse_thread/thread/613daafa29af77ae#
I wish I had updates, but I am still stuck where I was before. I was going to take another look at the outgoing passenger lists, but they appear to be down right now. I am trying to finish up a family history book I have been working on but this family is the biggest obstacle to its completion. Everything else (dates, mostly) I know how to find and will be able to do that when I have time to get back to the FHC. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experiences searching for qualitative information about their ancestors, as opposed to the quantitative things they could share. Some background: Joao Pacheco and Maria Andrade were my grandfather's grandparents. Their son, Frank Pacheco, married Maria de Luz Medeiros (daughter of Manuel Joaquin Medeiros Quarenta and Maria Filomena da Gloria Rego). They had two children, Robert (my grandfather) and Raymond. Frank and "Lucy" (as she was called) split up shortly after my grandfather was born. My grandfather had no contact with that side of his family. Luckily, this isn't a "touchy" subject with my grandfather. He doesn't mind talking about it but he just doesn't know anything. Through my research, I have uncovered Frank's siblings: Mary Leandro, Manuel, Constance Nardone, John, Georgiana/Gina Botelho/Medeiros, Antone, and Joseph. As far as I know, they are all dead with Antone having passed recently in Oct of 2008. All of this information came from US Census records and obituaries. I have the obituaries of Frank, his parents (though I can't locate Mary's for some reason), and a few of his siblings. Joao's obituary tells me that he was a member of the "A*tra (Actra? Astra? Bad copy is hard to read) Social Club" and the "Our Lady of Health" parish. He as well as his son Antone were fire fighters. I was wondering if it was possible to use this information in any way. I also found a son of Antone's on ancestry.com but he did not respond to my messages. I understand that this is tricky, general, and scattered, but I was hoping for any sort of input even if it was just a similar story. I know most people here are more interested in tracing further and further back but stories and pictures are very important to me. I am missing photographs for the Pachecos and would very much like to finish up this book. I appreciate all the help everyone is always so generous with. Thanks! ps. i know that with the information I gave its extremely difficult to identify the family; i am looking more for general advice. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
