I am looking at a ship's manifest for someone who came from Portugal to the US, went back for a visit and was returning to the US again and on the manifest it has a the following: 9868 Wash 10/27/24 Ret. Permit. Since I am assuming Ret. means return what is this return permit? Is the number and date attached to it significant other than it may be when they may have left the US? They ship landed in New York Jan. 13, 1925. It then says Insp. completed 9:43 am 1/14/25.
