My wife and I went in 2009. We went to Sao Miguel, great for driving all over and taking in the beautiful scenery. The praia Santa Barbara near Ribeira Grande was perfect. Sete Cidades was foggy, so that was a let-down. The people who ran the Convento Sao Francisco, in V.F.de Campo, were extremely nice (as was everyone else, really). We also went to Faial, where it was Sea Week.
