My family name is Jorge (George now) and have some ancestors from Flores, but they left Flores for Faial around 1720s as near I can tell. But, perhaps we are distantly related further back along the line (a good chance I would guess considering how small Flores is).
I have an Anotnio Jorge born in 1674 in Freguesia da Lomba, Flores. I tried to do a quick check to see if I could trace the line to your great grandfather but was unable to. Others in this group might be able to help you out further though. My grandmother was also a Freitas.
