Hi Robin, My family were Matos in Pico and Mattos in the US. I had Jorge (Anthony) in Turlock area.

One I know of stayed in Sao Jorge. I'm still in the beginning process of research on this particular line. Two weeks ago I purchased Sao Jorge cheese (via phone) from the Matos family to have for Thanksgiving. When I mailed my check to them, I included a family tree printout for their review. Because of that, Mr. Matos phones me and we're hoping to visit their family in the next couple months. PS: Note, I have two different spellings of Mattos.
