Hello, I am a new group member and would like to introduce my research interest. I am hopeful that someone may have suggestions for me. I am researching my paternal line. My grandfather John Palheiro Souza immigrated to the United States and settled in Provincetown, Ma in 1917. He was a fisherman there. I was told by my father that he switched his middle and last names when he arrived, so he may have been Juan or Joao Souza Palheiro. He was born in Routa Delagada on San Miguel on September 27th, 1891. He was married before he immigrated and his wife died. I think it may have been in childbirth. I haven't been able to find any information on him. His father's name was Manuel Palheiro and his mother was Maria. I have seen her referred to as Maria Souza and also Maria De Bona Nova.
I haven't run across anyone else researching the name Palheiro. I would be very interested in any information or any advice on how to proceed. I am not aware of which parish he was affiliated with.
