Hi Jim, You have the villages which people spend years trying to find. You are way ahead of the game.
However, it seems that most researchers have to go back to the early 1800s before they make a connection with another researcher. There are always a lucky few that make the a connection within the past 100 years. To look up births for the 1887 - 1890, you would either have to go the archives in Ponta Delgada yourself, hire a researcher to go the archives for you, or wait for the records to eventually come online on the CCA web site for Sao Miguel island. There is no time line for what records to expect when, so waiting for the S. Miguel records to come online could be in a few years. You could also write to the archives for Rosa's birth, since you seem to have an exact date for her. You could pay the fee and get her baptism. As an alternative though, you could cross your fingers and hope that your Francisco and Rosa were the later born children of a large family. Ginetes though, has baptisms filmed up to 1861 and some that are mixed with marriages and deaths fro 1860-1879. The mixed ones are film 1330763, items 1 - 3. Fenais de Ajuda is a bit better with the film going to 1883 for baptisms, marriages and deaths. The marriage film for the year 1883 going back to 1860 is 1438077. If her parents were married 10 years before she was born, you'd be able to find their marriage, but that's a big if. You could order the film yourself and train yourself to read Portuguese (or learn to pick out certain words). You could hire a researcher to look at the films for you (see the list on the Azores GenWeb at http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/azoresindex.html#researchers Many of the researchers listed are also on this list. And there are people on this list who may have the films who might be willing to do a look up for you as well on their next visit to the FHC. There's a how-to also posted on the Azores GenWeb at http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/HowTo.html You'd probably want to start with Part 2: Tracing with Portuguese records. Hope this points you in the right direction.
