Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your kind words.

Unfortunately I don´t feel myself sufficiently capable and qualified to work
through the english translation of the texts in portuguese especially the
excerpt I took from the book by José Pizarro related to the royal origin of
the Bragançãos. Sorry!

As to Urraca and Alfonso VI, you can find on line at this link two very
interesting books about their lives:

http://libro.uca.edu/title.htm

 <http://libro.uca.edu/alfonso6/alfonso.htm> The Kingdom of León-Castilla
Under King Alfonso VI, 1065-1109 by Bernard F. Reilly (Print edition:
Princeton University Press, 1988)

<http://libro.uca.edu/urraca/urraca.htm> The Kingdom of León-Castilla Under
Queen Urraca, 1109-1126 by Bernard F. Reilly (Print edition: Princeton
University Press, 1982)

Best regards,

Hi Manoel,

Thank you for sending this. Since I descend from Pedro's brother, Nuno,
I assume it is the same ancestry for him. I have read and reread your
attachment with my limited Portuguese....filling in words with my dictionary
as needed. However, that has it's drawbacks. I'm wondering if there is a
translation available for this document or if anyone could tell me how to
translate it on line....or best yet, if one of our native speakers could
translate it for us?

I was disappointed when I saw John's correction to Dona Violante's
ancestry because I am very intrigued with being related to Madragana and her
history......but alas, not through this line......perhaps my " da Sousa
Pereira" line. Regardless, now that I see what is a possible connection to
Urraca...Queen of Leon and Castilla, by her father, Afonso Vl, I'm hoping
the connection to her is valid. Earlier this year I read a biography of
her......she was quite a woman and added territory to the lands she
inherited from her father. Her life was very interesting and she had not
only great determination and stamina but was also great passion!
I like that and hope I'm reading this document correctly.

Best regards and thanks for sharing knowledge!

John,

Thank you for sharing your informations.

I am including now an attached file with a yet partial ancestry of our Pedro
Velho de Travassos, a precious gateway to iberian medieval times.

Among the main sources I used are the ancient “Lineages’ Book” from c. 1340
(Livro de Linhagens do Deão e Livro de Linhagens do conde D. Pedro) and the
book “Linhagens Medievais Portuguesas – Genealogia e Estratégias
(1279-1325)” by José A. de Sotto Mayor Pizarro.

Dear friends and fellow genealogists:

Please do not shoot the messenger! I too am a descendant of Velho Cabral's
sister Violante and his brother Álvaro. For many years I included Afonso III
and Madragana among their ancestors. But more recent research has shed new
light on their lineage and, alas, I have had to correct some very long
standing, but eroneous, lines. I include the fruit of my research in an
attachment. The best contemporary research on the lineage of the Cabrals is
"Subsídios para Uma Biografia de Pedro Álvares Cabral" by , Luís de Melo Vaz
de Sampaio, Universidade de Coimbra: 1971.

I offer this research in good faith and to prevent others from chasing after
false genealogies.

Best regards,

John Miranda Raposo
