Sometimes the "alcunha" was turned into a familiar surname. I found many 
examples in my researches.

The "alcunha" did not carry foward to his children and it is very possible that 
he was of dark skin.

surname. Portuguese vernacular word would be "negrinho" or "negreto", 
corresponding to Spanish "negrito" and Catallan "negret". I suspect this
