This is a total long shot, but I have to try. The CA Birth Index lists a Margaret R. Lema, b. 14 Dec 1917 in Alameda Co, CA to a mom with the surname of Souza.
The 1920 Napa Co, CA census (census day was Jan 1920) lists a Margaret Lema, age 2 yrs 1 month as a daughter of Louis R. and Bella F Lema, both from Portugal. It fits with a baby born Dec 1917. The 1930 Alameda Co, CA (Oakland) census lists Margaret Lema age 13 in the household of Bella. Her dad has died. March 10, 1943 Margaret Lema Mello vs Jack Mello (action for divorce) in Reno, NV. June 11, 1943 Roy S. Brown, age 20 and Margaret Mello, age 25, both of Reno are listed under marriage licenses in the paper in Reno, NV. This makes Margaret b. c 1918 if she had her birthday. If her birthday was in Dec, then she's born 1917. Anyone have a Louis/Luis Lema and a Bella F Souza in their database with missing info on Margaret? Anyone in Alameda county want to go to the county recorder and look for a marriage for a Jack Mello and a Margaret Lema between 1940 - 1943? Sacramento County was checked (thanks Elaine), but it's not there (Jack resided in Sacramento around 1942 & 1943). Thanks!
