Here's some situations I found with Familysearch: 1. My açoreanos migrated to Brazil and started having children there. They were born around Franca, in the State of São Paulo.
Well, someone not really acquainted with local geography assumed it was França (France). So, those births were indexed I having occurred in France and now, if I want to get to those records, I have to enter Southwest Europe as the region. 2. On my mother's side I have a branch with the family Luiz do Passo. Well, the transcriber put down as Luiz do Papo. The person wasn't really acquainted with paleography. 3. On their new site: new.familysearch.org, people have jumped one generation and although they allow changes there, it is difficult to make a correction with that type of mistake. 4. A cousin entered some wrong information on my parents and there they stay. I'm thankful for the work of volunteers and the service the church provides, but I don't like their policy of leaving mistakes there. They not only perpetuate, but foul up the work of others. Them: Are you Portuguese? Me: Yes, my father is half. Them: And your mother? Me: She's from the Ozarks. (They don't hear the word "Ozarks.") Them: Where? Me: Blue Eye Them: What? I don't know why they think I'm saying Azores for my mom and not Ozarks. I now say "the Ozarks of Missouri" and leave it at that.
