Ireis, Your Manuel may have belonged to the IDES or UPEC (both originally men's organizations). The new organization, PFSA (Portuguese Fraternal Societies of America) which resulted from the merger of the UPPEC, (women) UPEC, (men), IDES, (men) and SES (I think they always admitted both men & women) may have information about their members. I am not sure; however, it may be worth a try to find out which local councils of the above listed organizations still have active councils. Those councils may have information about members. If he joined one of the organizations, there MAY be death records. In my experience, it has not been easy to obtain information from any of the organizations, other than the UPPEC, where my mother and aunt were active from the 1940's until death in 1997 (for my aunt) and dementia, presently, (for my mother) occurred. The PFSA is located in San Leandro, CA; houses the Freitas Library and may have information that can help you. Their email is: www.mypfsa.org Celeste, Hayward, CA Celeste Perry [email protected]
