Ireis,
Your Manuel may have belonged to the IDES or UPEC (both originally men's
organizations).
The new organization, PFSA (Portuguese Fraternal Societies of America) which
resulted from the merger of the UPPEC, (women) UPEC, (men), IDES, (men) and SES
(I think they always admitted both men & women) may have information about
their members.  I am not sure; however, it may be worth a try to find out which
local councils of the above listed organizations still have active councils.
Those councils may have information about members.  If he joined one of the
organizations, there MAY be death records.
In my experience, it has not been easy to obtain information from any of the
organizations, other than the UPPEC, where my mother and aunt were active from
the 1940's until death in 1997  (for my aunt) and dementia, presently,  (for my
mother) occurred.
The PFSA is located in San Leandro, CA; houses the Freitas Library and may
have information that can help you.  Their email is:  www.mypfsa.org

Celeste, thank you for this information, I greatly appreciate it.  If you or
someone else should be able to get any information on her husband, Manuel
Furtado (my uncle) that would be so helpful.  thanks again

Hi Lil,
I have access to the death records for the UPPEC Fraternal Lodge.  In that
index, I found:
Mary H. furtado died 9/20/1995, at the age of 71 years in Vallejo.  Her date of
birth was given as 7/4/1914, in Navato, CA.  Father: Victorio Mattos, Azores;
mother: Barbara Camara, Azores.
She died of Diabetes Melitus and myocardial asystole.  The mortuary was, twin
Chapels and she is buried at All Souls Cemetery in Vallejo.  The contact person
was Mary Jean Rapose Kinney.  That is all the information I have.

I'm wondering if anyone living in the Vallejo, CA area could look up
the following obituaries in the local newspaper -

Manuel Carreiro Furtado                   4Feb1915 to 26Jan1985
Vallejo, CA
his parents were Antonio Carreiro Furtado and Maria do Carmo Motta

and his wife Mary H Furtado          20Sep1995 to 20Sep1995 Vallejo,
CA

would really appreciate it

Lil
