Adair, My ggGrandfather Manuel J Vieira lived in Analy Township, Sonoma county also. He can be found a few census sheets away from your Borbas on the 1900 census. His naturalzation paper work was filed in Sonoma County court in 1898.
I spent a day in Santa Rosa at the Library History Center and in the Sebastapol Library gathering info. The Great Register of Voters list there only showed birthplace as Portugal. Even the naturalization application only shows Portugal. A few of the applicants listed Azores or Western Islands, but no one was specific with island or town. The clues I spotted were on the 1900 census, that the oldest son Manuel was born in 1878 in Rhode Island, that the parents were married 24 years in 1900, so in 1876, or four years after Manuels arrival in 1872. I'd look for a Rhode Island marriage record from that year.
