Thank you Cheri.
For now I am pretty sure Jose was the correct name and Rose was the
mistake. I will continue to gather sources to confirm this though.
Maria Resuricao married in Fall River, MA so the idea of her making up
the name to use for the field is very possible. It's just strange that
she would have made up a name instead of using Botelho. Luiz would have
been her mother-in-law; the only reason I thought that there may have
been confusion is because in an obituary, her mother-in-law was referred
to with the Moniz surname as well. The marriage was much older though so
I'm more inclined to believe that. I'm also wondering if her mother took
the Moniz name later in life; it could have been before Maria R's
marriage but after her birth. Who knows!
Thanks again for the input Cheri. It really helps and I appreciate it.
Your idea makes a lot of sense, so now I'm feeling better about this line!

Hi Jesse,
I'm not sure anyone actually answered your question about the
mysterious maiden name. This topic has gone completely off topic from
your original request.
The baptism of Maria says her mother was Maria Jose and not Maria
Rosa. I learned while lecturing with George Pacheco that the mother
wasn't there at the baptism. She was home in bed recuperating from
giving birth. So if she's not there, there's a chance to get her name
misrecorded. You might want to collect all the kids of Antonio
Andrade & Maria ____ to see what's going on there.
As for the Moniz/Luiz surname....where did Maria Resureicao marry?
She's born in the time period where women didn't use surnames. By the
time she marries, they are probably using them. If she married in
America they want the maiden name. Maybe she just made one up to
satisfy the powers that be. I'd just record her with the Luiz and in
the notes put that she appears as Maria Moniz in the marriage of her
daughter, Maria Resureicao. You can really beat yourself up with some
of these things, so don't do that!!!
