Correct me if I'm wrong, but there were Jewish people that came to the island to escape persecution so some of them are carrying the Jewish surname. I want to say Pimentel is one of them.
There was a site I saw a few years back that actually showed each area of the island that were descendants from a particular country, i.e., Vila Franca were people from France.
