I use to go to Sacramento FHC. I have not been in a couple of years.
I noticed they had changed their room around the last time I was there. I
was at the Sunnyvale Library recently and they had a great reader and I
believe it was fairly new. I was looking for an obit in the newspaper. At
first, I had some difficulty adjusting the machine to read the record but
once I got the hang of it it was easy. It seemed to do all sorts of
things.

I know someone who used to work for the company who serviced these machines
at the FHC. Think I will pick his brain. Can't tell you what they have at
Sacramento FHC now. Should really pay them a visit but lately have been
doing most of my research online (have great difficulty reading/focusing
the Azores ones) and depending on prayers and many wonderful listers eyes to
one day find my grandmother's Azorean baptism record before I leave this
earth.

Not sure if she or her sisters obtained a Passporte as I know the ship she
came on was "chased and chase was abandoned when it left Faial" and entered
the United States illegally and owners were fined for same. Maybe one day,
if/when I visit Horta, I will see if I can find Passportes for her and her
sisters as I know the date they left the island.

Any idea of when Faial birth records will be online. One of the sisters had
a child ca 1895-1900 and the child was deceased by 1900 and I believe the
child was born on the island of Faial but I could be wrong.
