I have seen copies of the confession roles for Pedro Miguel, Faial. Susan Vargas Murphy, who is on the list, copied them when she was in the Azores. I met Susan at a conference and she approached me when she found out my ancestors were from Pedro Miguel. That night I got an email from her with the information about my grandfather going back several years. My understanding is that the priest went to each house yearly and recorded who was living there and their age. I am guessing that they are called confession rolls since Catholics need to perform their Easter duty and confess at least once a year and that is what he was checking on. These were very informative and I count it as one of my lucky days when I encountered Susan. Mary Ann In a message dated 5/10/2011 1:50:07 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes:
Wow, I've never heard of these before but they sound fascinating; has anyone had any experience with them?
