Hi Tony, Cheri must be out of town since she hasn't answered you so I'll try to give you some info to further your research.
I don't know what types of records you have in NZ to trace Immigrants but I'm sure that there are some. You need to try and see if Francisco/Frank became a citizen and perhaps those papers will give you an Island to search, at least. Try to get all of the paper available on him and his wife; will, birth/baptisms of children, marriage record if in NZ. How about his obit, death certificate etc. If he became a citizen there should be some kind of paperwork that was filled out at the time renouncing the King of Portugal. They only way to find out the Island name other than by oral history is by his paper trail. Hopefully one of the papers left behind will have your clue. You really will not be able to search in the Azores until you at least have an Island name. Hopefully this will get you started!
