To find out her family name you will have to look for the baptismal record of Jose in the records of Sao Miguel Archanjo and it should give the names of his grandparents. Based on the information you have so far. It looks like he was born before April 1854 so I would look at all the records for 1854 and 1853 for a Jose son of Manuel de Medeiros and Maria de Jesus.
