Katharine, I have never found Jose on a U.S. Census (I find his wife, "Mary Costa"). Or Jose coming to America. When his wife comes to America for the 2nd time in 1912, she is a widow with her two daughters. Jose's birth had no side margin notes as to when he died. Maybe I'll figure this mystery out one day.
