My family has a story about a divorced woman who wasn't allowed to be buried in the Catholic Cem. But my great, great-grandmother paid $1000 to someone & they moved her from the cemetery she was buried in to the St. John's Cemetery in New Bedford, "under the cover of darkness." (Those were the words my family always used when they would tell the story. The family plot only has a marker that says "Tavaras" & you wouldn't know that there are about 12 people buried there. I do have a copy of the card from the cemetery that my great-Aunt got for me. The lady at the cemetery didn't want to give it to her but she was the one still paying to care for the plot & will be buried there someday. We were surprised to see more burials there than we thought & yes, Matilda, the divorced woman, was there with her children. Matilda died in 1939. A thousand dollars was a lot back then but they got her in with the family. Sherry In a message dated 10/4/2011 5:26:14 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, gfsche...@gmail.com writes:

I'm not sure how they succeeded in getting that person buried.
