It could be that the family could not afford a grave stone at the time. In
walking through many cemeteries' I have seen many of graves that are only
marked with a small marker indicating that someone is buried there.

Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] MA death after 1917

A great grandfather committed suicide (in CA) in 1912 and he is buried in
the Catholic cemetery with other family members but with no grave marker.

Any ideas of how to find a death in MA, probably in Bristol County, New
Bedford or Fall River, between 1917 and 1920 and probably a suicide. And in
this instance, I believe he would not have been allowed to be buried in a
Catholic cemetery....at least that is what we were told when we were younger
- don't know if that practice is still the same today. Maybe I should try
non-catholic cemeteries and see if he is buried there? Or is there a MA
death index somewhere which encompasses the 1920's?
