Interesting. My husband is a Norton from Boston, have not done any research since he isn't interested and I'm doing my own from my family who are all from Sao Miguel.
His mother's side I have history on since his uncle has done research and I have that information- Hatfields/Pelke/Gilbert from the Midwest and Canada. I did have someone tell me along time ago that there is a lot of history on Norton's on Martha's Vineyard, MA off Cape Cod where they did a lot of whaling. They are in the museum on that island. I guess a very common name. I'm enjoying reading the entries about your ancestors. My ancestors were two brothers from the Island of Flores. The story goes that they changed their last name to Norton because a Captain on a ship "adopted them" or at least took care of them while sailing to America or the British Columbia Gulf Islands. According to the story they were 12 or 13 years-old at the time. John Norton was known to be one of the first settlers on Salt Spring Island in 1859. Some records list or mention a possible last name being Dalrvero. Delarvo- something like that. Signing out. Melanie Kay. -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
