Ava,
This is so cool, finding about your family. Remember the saying you don't know who you are related too? It's going to take some time for me to find out where my grandparents came from. On the de Souza family his first name doesn't even show up on the ships list. I don't know if he went by another name. I don't know if he was married in Portugal or in Hawaii. His immigration was in 1883 and his marriage. It shows 2 girls by the name of Maria, one born in 1882 and one in 1883. I don't know if they are the same in one person or different. It showed my grandmother had 8 children and 6 was living but what I had is 7 if I include the 2 Marias. If they had two Maria's one could have died. I think there youngest child either died or moved with someone else. He was 4 years old in the 1900 census and doesn't appear in the 1910 census. A lot of groundwork on this one. I just wish I could spend more time with it. Pretty soon I'm going to be really busy and won't be able to do anything. I'm trying to find out as much as I can using whatever resources I have and probably make the trip to Honolulu to find the rest. There was a Passport of Appeals. On that record it said what city in Sao Miguel they lived. Also, she went through the Birth / Christening tape of the prox year that our grandfather's were to have been born and found my Grandfather's record. That was great as it confirmed who are great grandparents were and where they lived.
