My paternal grandfather's headstone reads CAMBRA.
But his death certificate reads ROBLE.
He was known as John da Cambra Roble. (On his father's death certificate, my
grandfather listed his father a MANUEL C. REBELLO.)
Evidentally when my grandfather went into the hospital, he is the one that gave
the info. But when he died his sons gave the info for
the headstone. His sons used the name Cambra.

Thank you so much for all your help, I appreciate it. What is very funny is
their names on the death certificate is Lindinha and the grave is Moniz. His
name was Jospeh Moniz Lindinha. I just got word from the vital statistic
office that they found my Aunty Rosaline death certificate so I should be
receiving it sometime next week. If ever you need any information from the big
island Hawaii and I can help, just let me know.

These Portuguese don't want to be found so they keep changing their names Ha!
Ha!. It's like my great grandfather is de Souza but on his grave is Souza and
his wife is Souza Dias. Some names are just Dias and some are Souza so it gets
a little harder to find.

Thanks again and I hope you have a very nice weekend.

  Gail

I do have to say... it is time for a happy dance!!! I found three people
(not two) when I went to the cemetery. I know I said that I would be a second
set of eyes; however, I was out there last week and (at first) I looked and
could not find the graves.

As I said in a previous email, the people at this cemetery are VERY helpful.
I went back in and confirmed with them the locations of the graves and went
back out to the site. They even gave me a piece of paper with the other graves
in the surrounding area, so I could narrow the area down and make sure I was in
the correct spot. It turns out I wasn't in the correct spot the first time, I
was actually a row off when I was looking for Alfred Lindinha...

Oh and there is another surprise (and this is why I fulfilled the request on
Find a Grave.)  They are not buried under the name Lindinha on the markers;
however, the office records do, in fact, reflect Lindinha. The surname on all
three markers is Moniz. The person buried next to Alfred is the person buried
next to him on the piece of paper that the office provided, so I am very
certain that I have the correct marker.

Let me know if you need anything else. =-)

p.s. I will email you the actual pictures in a couple of minutes.

That cemetery is located on the side of a hill and has a mixture of different
types of graves everywhere... It can be a little cumbersome finding one there
that is why I offered another set of eyes to help. :-)

    Aloha Eric,

I just put on find a grave where the location of the two graves are. The
names are Alfred Moniz Lindinha and Joseph Moniz Lindinha with my Aunty
Rosalina Lindinha. I'm just waiting for someone to take a picture for me.
I'm praying there is a photo on because we have never seen my Aunty. So who
ever gets there first I would really appreciate the photo of the grave.

Everyone as we say in Hawaii Mele Kalikimaka and Happy New Year.

Just read this thread... I am very familiar with St. Mary's. I found a
lost set of great grandparents there. If you need any help or a second set of
eyes looking for the grave site. Let me know. The office staff at the
cemetery is very helpful.

Next week is my genealogy week, I will be researching for at least two or
three days next week.

        Shirley,

This attachment is not updated but may give you a hint if you think
your family links. What can you tell me about your Borba link?

          Eric,

I am still having trouble tracing the Borba line in California. I
can't believe with all those kids that they produced only three children.
Perhaps the obits would help me...where do you search normally for obits?

Sorry Cheri, I'm always rushing and not very clear. Let me start
from the beginning. My grandfathers sister Rosaline de Souza born in 1895 in
Hawaii married Joe Moniz Lindinha who was born in 1891 or 1889 in Hawaii also.
They married in Hawaii and had 3 children Alfred (1916), Mary (1919) and
Adelina (1920) all born in Hawaii. On July 28, 1923 they all moved to
California. The only thing that I have since found is Joe died on 09-08-65 and
his son died on 02/06/43 in Alameda County California. I don't know if anyone
one of them married and had children, so that is why I'm asking any suggestions
on what I should do next.

          Thanks,
          Gail
