Eleanor-- As far as I know I do not have any ancestors named Lopes or Lopez from Faial. However, my mother's maiden name was Madruga and she and 5 of her brothers plus 4 of her sisters were born in Gloucester. She had 2 brothers and one sister who were born in Lajes do Pico. I am told that the progenitor of the Madruga line was born in Faial and died in Terceira around 1558, I am missing the link between him and my Madruga 3x great-grandfather who was born around 174` in Lajes do Pico.
