Hi Mary

Most genealogy programs assign sone sort of ID/Reference number for you, so
assigning one within your program is not necessary. As far as systems
go........ there are as many ways of doing this as there are people doing it.
:) I use a very simple system and file everything by names of the head of the
family. I have a file system set up this way in my Home directory (User folder)
of my computer:

These are al folder names.......

Documents
        Family History Files
                Maps
                Misc.
                Places
                Portuguese Genealogy
                Surnames
                        Andrade
Henry Andrade (folder with all Henry's
documents in it)

Others do assign their own numbering system to their paper documents. Still
others prefer to organize their files into groups such as: Census, Deaths,
Land Records, etc. There is no right or wrong way. The idea is to find a method
that you can live with and that works for you and then stick with it.

I would recommend to you (if you don't already do this) to visit the
ReunionTalk Forums here: http://www.reuniontalk.com/index.php It is a great
way to learn about this program and all its capabilities.

Also, you should investigate GenealogyTools http://genealogytools.com/ He has
a whole section on Reunion info. If you donate a small sum, you can download
his videos to watch and learn from. Even $5 will allow you to be a member and
have access to these wonderful videos. You can learn a lot about Reunion and
some tips and tricks from these so, in my opinion, they are well worth it.
There is also a video there on organizing your genealogy files.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Kathy
