As many of you know it is not uncommon to find several children in the same family given the same name on their baptismal record.
I have a family with a daughter which I found through a marriage record and used the name Maria Augusta. Based on her age at marriage she was born around 1833 and fit in between two other children which I found through their marriages. I found all the marriages in Santissimo Salvador. Because records for Santissimo Salvador did not start until 1836 their Baptismal record is most likely in NS Estrela. In working with the baptismal records for Santissimo Salvador I found other children of this couple. In particular a Maria was born 26 Jun 1838. In the margin of that record was the notation "morreu a 31-4-914 no 16" I have come to learn that meant she died on 31 Apr 1914. This morning I was working with Obitos from the same parish and found the death of Maria on 4 Aug 1838 age 3 months more or less and from this same family. I will also note that the baptismal record on 26 Jun 1838 was at home because of danger of death. So now finding the death of Maria does not surprise me. Now the question was the margin note for Maria Augusta and placed on Maria's record by mistake? In cases where I have more than one child named the same, in most cases it was because the first one died. The baptismal records in the 1838 time period did not state if there were other children given the same name. Any opinions out there?
