Hello, Do you know which island Manuel came from?
My husband's grandfather was Antonio PACHECO, b~1885 on Sao Miguel. His parents were Joao and Jacintha PACHECO of the village of Sao Roque which is right beside Ponta Delgada. I can only guess that the parents were born ~1850 there. I've never found anything else about them, so I don't know how many children they had, and I don't know if they themselves had siblings. And I don't know if "Tony" PACHECO traveled with someone when he came to Massachusetts as a 20- year-old ~1905. He settled in Cambridge, MA, where there were other PACHECO families. We don't know if they were directly related, but one researcher said they were. "Tony" married Elsie MOURA, also arriving ~1905, but as a 12-year-old, and also from Sao Miguel. They had 5 surviving children, and she was pregnant with twins when Tony was killed in a car accident (~1929). She delivered a month later. After learning about the couple, I decided a year or so ago that Elsie was so angry at her husband for - leaving her - she never spoke about him again. And told her grandchildren that none of the other Pacheco's were related to them. I've posted about them before, so there is more information in the archives of this Group. (I might not have mentioned before that Tony and Elsie's first child was named, Charlton (sp?).) Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (very active on the Lists and Boards at www.rootsweb.com for 10 yrs.)
