Also, I have just discovered a da Ponte in our Velas records.  We have
a Jose, son of Francisco da Ponte Gadeilha [later called Guedella).
He is from Sao Miguel and married my gr grandfather's niece in Velas
in 1880.

 I'm including a couple of translations below.  If you come across any
connection or records of them, I'd appreciate you sending them along
as most of my direct family is from Velas, I don't do a lot of
researching in Sao Miguel, at least yet!

Here are the two records I have:
Birth Record: [Sao Miguel]
Joze son of Francisco da Ponte Gadeilha and of Maria Carreira,
naturals and parishioners of this matrix of Our Lady of the Angels
(Nossa Senhora dos Anjos).
Born on 30-March-1850 and baptised 28-April-1850
Priest: Luciano Francisco de Medeiros, Cura
Godfather: Antonio Jacinto Ribeiro, married.

10th of May 1880, Villa das Velas. Joze da Ponte Guedella 29 years and
Jannaria Emila de Ponte.  son of Francisco da Ponte Guedella and
Maria ?coraceau de Jesus, freguesia angra de pau and she 19 years,
single of Velas daughter of Joze Pedro da Silveira and Anna Emilia
Furtado of Velas.
