Are the CD's still available and how would we be able to purchase them?

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Carlos Machado's livro 1

Here is some information about Dr. Machado posted in 2004 by John Miranda
Raposo, a fellow member of this group. It should answer any questions you
may have about Dr. Machado and his credentials. From what you have said
about the "book" you have, I'm unable to determine if this a newly available
resource, and/or, whether it is based on the same genealogical documents of
which Mr. Miranda Raposo speaks.

"Carlos Machado was a very prominent 19th century political and social
leader in S. Miguel. He was the founder of the Museum in Ponta Delgada which
bears his name. His avocation was genealogical research. When he died he had
left
over 600 12"x17" pages of genealogies, tracing the descendants of the
earliest settlers on S. Miguel to about the year 1900. Almost anybody with
origins in S. Miguel will eventually connect to one of the lines researched
by Carlos
Machado, thus saving an awful lot of time, eye strain and expense. Machado's
genealogies are kept at the archives in Ponta Delgada. There is only one
publicly photocopy available in the US, which is at the Taunton Public
Library. There are only about 6 copies in private hands in the US. Now,
Father Joseph Viveiros has entered the first 100 pages of the total 600
pages into a genealogy program. There are nearly 10,000 individuals in the
gedcom which includes Fr. Joe's supplemental research. Father Joe thinks
that it will take him another 3-4 years before all 600 pages have been
entered into his program. He is making a gedcom of the first 100 pages of
Carlos Machado's genealogies available on a CD-ROM. Anyone interested in the
details for purchasing the CD-ROM should contact me privately.

John Miranda Raposo"

I have been looking at Carlos Machado's genealogy book and found information
concerning my grandmother's family. If anyone has information as to who
Carlos Machado is, and about how he acquired his information I would be
interested in knowing.

Thank you,
Tish
