For those of us who have ever wondered why our parents or grandparents left
Sao Miguel, there is a documentary that tries to answer that question.

Ricardo Rebelo has put together with documentary which is suppose to air in
the U.S. on the Public Broadcasting Stations.  However, the above link
allows you to see it online.   I just watched it, it is an hour long.  This
should give you some insight.
