Hello Jools, yes we did connect some time back and you were very helpful then.
Your Francis Joseph, definitely is not my man at all (even if the Archives did
try to tell me different!) and as we know his back ground is well
authenticated/documented which is really great for his descendants.  He was
also naturalised.  Thanks again for your comments. Tony

I'm not sure if its you I've been in touch with previously, but I'm connected
to another Frank Joseph from the Azores, Master Mariner, who came to New
Zealand.  Now he, most definitely, had relations in the USA, and he, himself
also lived there for a time, (Gold Hill, Nevada) and buried his first wife (my
gt.gt.g.t aunt) there, along with an infant child.

You will likely bump into his information in search of your chap, but there's
not much I don't know, that can't be confirmed as to which one it is.

Hi Tony,  I am in Australia and have a ggg grandfather that came here from the
Azores. At my local library i have access to the Victorian BDM records and
would be happy to research your family connections . Let me know if i can help
, please send me as much detail as you can on the names and approximate dates
and if possible the town where they might have lived.  I can also access
cemetery files. All at no cost. Will be pleased to help.  Maria Lima and i got
so excited last year as we thought that both our Azores relations came to
Australia on the ship Water Lily but it was not to be the case
Best Wishes
Chris
Thanks to both Cheri & maria Lima for the useful hints.  I been to Archives NZ
and they were very helpful and supplied me some information which I didn't
have.  This is how I found out my GtGt Grandfathers name and as I said earlier
his place of birth is listed as Azores or Western Isles, neither of which is
very useful!  The Obits & Marriage papers were of no use either.  I can only
surmise given the period in which he lived, he didn't have an easy time of it
not being "english' and authorities possibly found it easier just to say
'Western Isles' on official documents.
