Hi Pam S
I have used ARM and they do not actual have the records, it would only be
the information of the parents and child and date of birth, from there you
would have to order the records from ARM, but sometime it may not be the
records you want because of incorrect information. If you are like me and
have surname that is used a lot in a village then it is hard to tell if they
are brother sister and or if they are aunts, uncles and so one.
I hope this helps

Well they don't even have the option to index it is why I asked if you
knew when they would start. I know the actual digitizing it will take awhile
but indexing would help.

They also have Baptism for Funchal also, They should change the title so
it says Madeira on it kind of confusing. Now does ARM have the actual records
 online or just index?

Pam S,

The Madeiran Government has their CCA web site, but it's called ARM
(Arquivo Regional Madeira). They have the most records at this time.

The link you sent was "Portuguese Marriages" so I missed it in the
listing, as I was looking for something that said Funchal. They have only
59,000
marriages listed.

Family Search is digitizing ALL their records. I think they told me and
Joao it will take 4-5 years to get it all digitized. Indexing is an ongoing
project. To index something outside of the U.S., you need to index
something in the U.S. first to get used to their system. I don't know how
long
it will take to index all their records. A real long time.
