Oh, i had wondered what cabouquiero meant. I have an Antonio Jose de Lima, b 1804, listed as "cabouquiero" in one document and a proprietor in another years later. From what I learned about him in 1852 he sailed to the goldfields of Australia with his 2 sons and his brother in law, jacintho Jose Borges. The 2 sons became partners in a sluicing company in The Humbughill Sluicing Co.
Then I know he returned to Sao Miguel and that they had brought ba k gold with them and owned property; so I'm now speculating he became a land/property owner after being a "miner" or digger. The different definitions just give me something to consider. I don't think proprietero and cabouquiero are the same. Thanks I've learned so much from these posts.
