I have an idea ... I might be wrong but I am curious about the way the names are recorded in that marriage record. The two surnames Perry and Pine of the bride & groom but both parents of bride & groom are listed with different surnames of their children. While this would not surprise me in the Azores, seeing it here in US records makes me scratch my head ... especially for the bride since she was born here. In oder to check my growing suspicion, I looked in 1910 census and found a likely family for Mary. The father is Joseph A. Perry and her mother is Mary L. So, here is my hypothesis: the marriage record might contain the first name of the father but after that the mother's name is Silveira for the groom and Leal for the bride. If this pans out, I would include looking for a man Jose Pinheiro born Faial, Azores to parents Jose Pinheiro and Louisa Silveira. Meanwhile, see what you can learn about this bride ... your great gm. Were her parents Anonio Pereira & Maria Leal? Al In a message dated 9/6/2012 1:20:01 P.M. I, too, would have thought his name would have been Pinheiro and was surprised when I saw the marriage record for Joseph Pine & Mary Perry recorded Dartmouth 19 May 1917 as having taken place in New Bedford. His parents are listed as "Joseph & Louise Silveira" while her parents are listed as "Antonio & Mary Leal" ........ why is she being married as Mary Perry then? This is first marriage for both. She is age 18 and born Fairhaven, MA ... so about 1898-1899? -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected]. Follow the confirmation directions when they arrive.
