I started the topic on Oct. 18, "Minta surname from Flores Island - derivation?"
Margaret Vicente found the key record that convinces me, along with other leads from the Group, that Minta derives from Pimentel Ramos, because one of the few particulars we know about Manuel Minta was his birth on 17 Jan 1828 on Flores: Santa Cruz, Baptismos 1826-1841 > 0035<http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FLR-SC-SANTACRUZ-B-1826-1841/FLR-SC-SANTACRUZ-B-1826-1841_item1/P35.html> Manuel Pimentel Ramos Born 17 Jan 1828 Baptized 28 Jan 1828 I'm hoping for a full translation of this record since it's critical to get it right, not just for my family tree, but for others who may be skeptical about readjusting Ramos/Renas/Minta lineages. It implies Manuel Pimentel Ramos changed to Minta, as did his siblings Mathew and Mary (Maria) Minta. However, Mathew changed back to Pimentel Ramos after the 1880 US Census, whereas Mary (Maria) married, so we don't know. NOTES Also, this would help clear up confusion on the oft-repeated dates for Manuel Pimentel Ramos: Born 11 Jan 1828 Baptized 22 Jan 1828 (sometimes cited as birth) all based on this record, I believe: Family Search Pedigree Resource File<http://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/S1FM-RST> To see how all this will change the Minta-Ramos family tree, look at Manuel Minta <http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/45606850/person/6388123471> and siblings then, in same family tree, compare to Manuel Pimentel Ramos<http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/45606850/person/6495811895> and siblings I use unique icons to easily see the three cases of Minta equivalents to Pimental Ramos. I follow Greg Small on the use of Ramos vs Renas; for example, see his note at Ramos, Manuel Pimentel<http://gsmall.us/Family/Gimbel/getperson.php?personID=I00434&tree=Gimbel> Thanks once again, Steve Minta -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
