Hi Bob,

I'll look up your ancestors later and see if we're related.
Often people with Lajes do Pico ancestry have one or two lines that come from the north side of the island and I can find a link to them.

But in regards your DNA test, Cheri is the best to answer that. If I understand you correctly, you got the Ancestry.com test.
I do know Family Tree DNA (ftdna.com) offers a conversion to their database and I know for a fact with your Lajes ancestry, there are several you will match if you get the Family Finder test.
I also have a match to several on this list with Lajes ancestry, so I know they're out there.

The question becomes whether you want to pay additional for having your info transferred over, since you already paid once. I can surely understand why you wouldn't want to.
But keep in mind that for DNA testing, the only reason it's helpful, is when you can find a match. That's where FTDNA leads the pack with their largest database.
It's similar to my largest Pico and Terceira database. Simply the best. :-)

Hi Doug,
Both of my maternal grandparents were born on Pico. Their parents' trees are easily traceable on NEPS. My great grandparents from Lajes do Pico are Manuel Inacio Brum (25 Apr 1840-18 May 1922) and Maria Macedo (20 Oct 1847-14 Aug 1934). My great grandparents from Bandeiras [Concelho da Madalena in NEPS link] are Roque Faria Costa (died 9 Mar 1932) and Maria Carolina Costa [maiden name =Serpa] (26 Mar 1858-3 Jan 1894).
I have purchased Ancestry DNA, but the only info I receive is Ancestry's estimate of a "match" (by percent). I'm ignorant of the different tests, but realize they may become more available in the future. Bob Ross
