I think if you or someone in your family pays the property tax still it should still be yours. I sure hope someone has been paying, my mother and her siblings have property in New Mexico and she pays like 6.00 either a month or year, its really cheap. But if you or your family hasn't and someone has then the property becomes theirs.
There were people who would see if a property tax wasn't being paid in New Mexico and they swoop on in and pay it and the property became theirs.
