Hi Patricia,

It's been a real long time since we've "talked."
Hope you're doing well.

If my memory serves, you have ancestors from either Lajes or Ribeiras, Pico, right?

I've been doing a ton of Ribeiras research of late. I'm trying to find living descendants, other than my own line, of my ancestors from Ribeiras.
Off the top of my head, my ancestors from there are Manuel da Costa de Sao Joao. That is a very unusual surname for a man, but thanks to that, I am almost certain I know his parents, even though it's beyond the available dates of marriage. He married ... now I have to refer to my tree ... Isabel de Azevedo. Their daughter, Maria Silveira de Vilalobos is my link. You can find her married to Capitao Domingos Vieira Serpa in Ribeiras in 1699.

I have been scouring the records and found several of her siblings. There is a break in the marriages for an entire generation where the volume was lost or destroyed somehow. Bridging that gap is the greatest challenge for all Ribeiras researchers. I have done it numerous times, but still looking for branches as yet unlinked to these older generations and hoping one or more link to my above ancestors. If I'm very lucky, I can locate some direct male descendants who can have a Y-DNA test which will tell me that type of information about my ancestor.

I've been so set on finding links that I didn't step back until now to see my results. I see I have a whole lot of relatives from one sibling. And I have more from one that is not yet proven.

Now I can look to see if there is a direct male descendant. :-)

Getting back to the subject of this message, I am sure many of these descendants moved to Brasil and/or the USA.
